Q: How do you handle personal faith and beliefs in therapy?
A: While Amethyst Roots Rising is not a faith-based practice, I deeply value the role personal spirituality and faith can play in your healing. I welcome your beliefs into the therapeutic space and tailor our approach to align with what matters most to you.
Q: What is "shadow work"?
A: Shadow work is the gentle practice of getting to know the parts of yourself you were taught to hide. Throughout our lives—especially if we have experienced trauma or had to mask our true selves—we learn to suppress the pieces of our inner world that others told us were "too much" or "unacceptable." Instead of fighting these hidden parts (like our protective anger, our unmasked joy, or our deep vulnerabilities), we gently invite them into the light. It is a collaborative, shame-free process of understanding how these parts tried to protect you, and welcoming them back so you can feel whole again.
Q: You mention using tarot and dreamwork. Is this a psychic reading, or how does it work in therapy?
A: We use tarot and dreamwork strictly as therapeutic tools, not for fortune-telling! Tarot cards are rich with universal archetypes, imagery, and stories. Often, when we are feeling stuck, our logical brains just spin in circles. Pulling a card or exploring a dream gives us a visual, creative prompt to bypass that overthinking, helping us tap into our subconscious, uncover hidden feelings, and look at a problem from a completely new perspective.
Q: Do I need an official ADHD or Autism diagnosis to work with you?
A: Absolutely not. I am deeply affirming of self-diagnosis, especially knowing the systemic barriers and biases that keep many women, gender-expansive individuals, and adults from receiving formal assessments. Whether you have a clinical diagnosis, suspect you might be neurodivergent, or just want to explore how your unique brain works, you are welcome here.
Q: I have trauma, but I’m terrified of talking about it. Will therapy make me relive my worst memories?
A: Your safety and comfort are always my top priorities. Healing from trauma is not about forcing you to rip off the band-aid or relive the worst days of your life. We will move entirely at your pace, focusing first on regulating your nervous system and building a deep sense of safety. When you are ready, tools like EMDR can help us gently process the past without having to talk through every painful detail.
Q: If my teen or child is in therapy, how involved will I be as a parent?
A: Parents are a vital part of the healing process! For younger children in Play Therapy, I work closely with you to share insights and build strategies to support them at home. For teens, I balance parental involvement with their developmental need for privacy and autonomy. We will always establish clear boundaries up front so your teen has a safe, confidential space to unpack their feelings, while ensuring you stay informed about their overall progress and well-being.
Q: Do you offer telehealth, or do I have to come to your office in Bryan?
Yes! I primarily see telehealth clients on Mondays and Thursdays, and in-person on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. My availability is between 10:30am - 6:00pm.
